Fort Vancouver High School Reviews

This is my first year at Fort and I am finding the staff and students to be incredible. We have a lot to overcome, but the tenacity of the students is by far the best I have seen in my career as an administrator. I am proud to be a part of a team that really cares about what happens to kids. And to work with kids who really want to do what it takes to succeed. Go Trappers!

this is by far the best school I've ever ben too, and I've ben thrown a round a lot in L.A. The welding shop is the last shop class in the district, and we are lucky to have a teacher like Mr.Richards in the shop he's always there when we need help, we need to preserve these things like shop classes because I know it's getting me thru school. I used to skip school all the time, but no more, I'm getting that diploma.I thank shop for that. p.s. Mr.Richards you rock!!!

I really liked attending this school overall. It occasionally had its problems, I think they handled them well the majority of the time. One of the best things about Fort currently are the staff, especially Leah Baker, Phyllis Sprague, and Jason Galvas. They helped me learn so much last year, and although their classes were challenging, it was worth it. Attend Fort if you get the chance.

I am a graduat of fort class of 2007, and i have to say i loved my time there! The teachers were great they really wanted their students to do well. Mr. Galvas was the best! His way of teaching really stuck out and really worked, everyone in my class passed! The students are very nice too! And school spirit is always in effect. If you are looking for a well rounded school than fort is the place to go. Dont beleve what people say go check it out for yourself. Go Trappers!

Fort isnt as bad as a school as everyone makes it out to be, I attend fort now.and I must say i am glad we are getting a new principal. We do however have many great teachers.and a wonderful diverse culture at our school. and many programs are offered here that the other high schools do not have. It may not be the best high school in vancouver but its not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I am glad i decided to go to fort vancouver for my high school education.

i am so happy that my daughter came to fort.thank you for everyting that you have done

I don't get why everyone is saying Fort is such a bad school. You get out of it what you put in to it. Fort is an great place to get an education. They have a nice culinary class, brodcasting program,, leagal magnet, and medical magnet. I couldn't imagine going to any other school. Our sports may not be that great, but we sure do have a lot of spirit!

Fort has a principal who is striving to build community among staff and students and raise the academic standard by asking staff and students to grow. The school assemblies are full of spirit and good energy. Many excellent, caring, and 'serious about school,' teachers and administrators work tirelessly to reach out to students of several different cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds. They stand together in hardship, as well. Overall, this school does have challenges, but, with the cards they've been dealt, the faculty is playing to win every hand! - C.B.

Fort Vancouver high school is a disgrace to the Vancouver school district. The principal is definitely not the right person for the job. She enforces pointless restrictions and focuses on the unimportant conflicts. The sports program is the WORST. Many coaches from all areas say that the students come to Fort with real potential and natural talent but then is somehow lost. Also, the counselor has not helped my daughter one bit. The teachers vary. Some are ok but others talk or sit all period, my daughter not learning a single thing. Just a waste of time. Overall, the school is a failure. That's my opinion.

this is a great school!!!!!!!

This school seems like it offers a lot of educational activities and after school help for the students. It also offers a lot of programs to further students in their career wherever it may be.

This school is a good example of a decent school gone rotten. There are constant fights there, The principal is in a middle school mind setting, Half the staff doesnt really know what they are doing, and drugs are a big problem. I would say more then half of the student body has been stoned atleast one day of each year atending there at school. The school isnt the worst school by far but I think a new principal would really help the school, someone who puts the school in a good direction.

One of my friends last year went to school in drag and he is a homosexual and they told him he had to change becuse it was mocking women of the school but if it's how he feels he should dress and every thing was up with school dress code, and also the suport for the schools GSA (gay straghit alliance) was sent much not very much help from teachers and only supervision from the principal and they would not make it [an]offical club but yet they can have a club for cooking and science. When they have classes and this club will be for the better of the school to help kids not feel alone and so they can be with people not feel alone. What kinda of diverse school is this?

Fort Vancouver H.S. is a great school. I attented the school and graduated in 2000 and I now have a brother in attendance. The staff is great and the sports program is wonderful. Also the magnet programs are such a needed area of focus that the students at Fort have the pleasure of having. I will send my child to this school when it's time. I do feel the new principal is trying to make this High School a Middle School and needs to understand she is working with a new age group. Jennifer Lopez

Mediocre school at best. City school with many minorities and disadvantaged. Not enough interventions for at-risk kids. Need more attention to 'fringe kids'. Smoking, drugs, attendance punishment is punitive (suspensions), need more reality check type aversion-perhaps community service in offense-related facility (or meaningful work on campus). Good campus-security staff. Second offense-off sports teams. Fairly young, well-off staff not willing to consider different lifestyles of either students or their families. Lack of administrative creativity with academically and socially challenged students disappointing. Special education department either grossly understaffed or unwilling to share/delegate responsibilities. I would not choose this public school for my child.

I think Fort Vancouver High School is a great school for the most part. I have a student in attendance there and I have seen the changes the new principal has made. None of them being good. Although I do think that Fort is a great learning evnironment and the sports programs are great! I think the principal needs to realize that she is at a high school now and some of her changes aren't necessary.

I think Fort Vancouver High is a very good school. I don't think that the rules are enforced as much as they should be. The extra-curricular activities are awesome. The new prinicpal has changed almost everything from a high school setting to a middle school setting, which takes away from the high school experience.

This is a very clean school. Most of the staff is very friendly. Some rules aren't enforced, such as the dress code, but other than that it's a great school.
